Welcome to the British-Kazakh Society Charity Race Site

We have finally reached our major milestone this year – the very first BKS half-marathon in Astana, which brings us closer to our ultimate goal of establishing an annual marathon in the capital of Kazakhstan. With your help and participation we will raise much needed funds for charitable fund AYALA and make our contribution for obtaining medical equipment for premature babies in various medical centres in Kazakhstan. For more details of AYALA admirable work please visit http://www.bksoc-marathon.org.uk/eng/run-for-charity.aspx .

Back in October the 12th 2008 the ‘Almaty Flyers’ a mixed ability group from Air Astana completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London.

After the team finished the grueling 13.1 mile course they were greeted by Saule Kudaibergenova of Agip KCO and Gauhar Bramley-Fenton of the British-Kazakh Society, who came to support Air Astana.
The idea of having a charity race somewhere in Kazakhstan came about while we were having some refreshments and taking photos.

Although marathons and charity races culture is pretty strong in the UK) it was Air Astana team that got us inspired.

Back in 2009 together with Akimat of Astana and with participation of our runners we have raised donations for two SOS Childrens Villages Kazakhstan and Astana Children Home as well as brought attention of the Kazakhstan public to an admirable work these organizations do. This first attempt of 7k distance paved its way to subsequent annual charity runs in the capital.

In 2010 the distance increased to 10 k, and we managed to raise 1,016,510.00 in support of WW2 veterans of the Kazakhstan’s capital, to whom we will always remain indebted for today’s peace.

Last year we marked  the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan independence by organising  20k charity run and supported International charitable public foundation “Children of Chernobyl and Aral” in Kyzylorda city.
